Mount Carmel East
Since 1886, Mount Carmel has been providing high
quality, compassionate care at our three
hospitals –Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel West
and Mount Carmel St. Ann’s – and numerous
surgery centers, outpatient facilities and
physician offices.
Located in Reynoldsburg’s back yard at the
intersection of East Broad Street and I-270,
Mount Carmel East features comprehensive cardiac
services, including open heart surgery, cardiac
catheterizations and diagnostics. In addition,
Mount Carmel East has been recognized for
expertise in neuroscience, orthopedics and
cancer services.

Child Care, Preschool, and Adult Day Care
An
excellent program for before and after-school
child care is offered for elementary students,
grades kindergarten through 6th, in their own
school. Students are cared for in the gymnasium
from 6:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M., and 3:30 P.M. to
6:00 P.M. There are scheduled activities and
quiet times, and an afternoon snack. Children
may attend mornings only, after school only, or
both. There is a nominal registration fee plus
weekly tuition. Many satisfactory child care
facilities in Reynoldsburg are listed in the
Yellow Pages under Child Care. Some area
churches offer preschool for children ages 3 to
5. In general the preschools serve children ages
3 through 5 in two or three half-day classes
weekly, September through early June. Most have
outdoor playgrounds. Some offer all-day
programs, day care or latchkey care, and special
summer activities.
Life
Center Adult Day Services provides an
individualized plan of daytime care for seniors
and adults with disabilities in a safe and
well-supervised environment. Life Center
programs are available at Wesley Ridge, at the
New Albany United Methodist Church, and at two
new satellite locations at the Reynoldsburg
United Methodist Church, and at Peace United
Methodist Church in Pickerington. LIFE Center
provides nursing care and assistance with
activities of daily living. Social and
therapeutic programs include arts, music,
gardening, exercise and rehabilitative
activities. The programs offer a needed respite
to caregivers, along with health monitoring,
education, support groups and links to vital
community resources. Client Services include
supervision by onsite nurses, transportation
to-and-from home, bathing services and

Overview of Children’s Hospital
Founded in 1892 as a 12-bed charity care
hospital, Children’s Hospital has developed into
one of the country’s premier pediatric hospitals
and research institutes, providing Care,
Advocacy, Research, Education, and Service to
children from 37 counties in central Ohio and
around the world. Children’s is the fifth
largest children’s hospital in the country,
recording more than 650,000 visits in 2005.
Children’s pediatric emergency department had
more than 70,000 visits in 2005 and an
additional 74,000 visits to our community-based
Urgent Care centers. Child magazine has
recognized Children’s as operating the nation’s
second best emergency department. Children’s
provides all services without regard for
families’ ability to pay.
With
383 licensed inpatient beds, Children’s has a
medical staff of more than 850 practitioners
representing every specialty area of pediatric
medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Critically ill
children are cared for in the 77-bed Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit and 35-bed Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit, both recently renovated.
Children’s Hospital pediatricians are members of
the faculty of The Ohio State University College
of Medicine and Public Health.
Children’s Hospital employs over 5,000 people
and its campus includes:
· The seven-story Outpatient Care
Center, housing the hospital’s
ambulatory clinics and pediatric and surgical specialties.
· The main clinical tower, a
160,000-square-foot expansion which
opened in
2006.
· The six-story Ann Isaly Wolfe
Education Center.
· The Columbus Children’s Research
Institute (CCRI), housed at
the Wexner Institute
for Pediatric Research. A second research
building opened in 2004. CCRI now ranks among
the top 10
freestanding children’s hospitals in
funding from the National Institutes
of Health.
· The Center for Child and Family
Advocacy, which opened in 2005
and is a national
model for the treatment and prevention of child
abuse and domestic violence.
In
addition to its on-campus facilities, Children’s
also operates a total of 21 community-based
Close to Home Centers located throughout central
Ohio—including nine Physician Care Centers, four
Urgent Care locations, and seven locations that
provide behavioral health counseling and
support—enabling children and families to
receive our services in the communities in which
they live.
Wesley Ridge Retirement Community
Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, 2225 State
Route 256, offers seniors a continuum of care
including independent living homes and
apartments, Assisted Living, Special Care for
those with Alzheimer’s and similar dementias,
and Adult Day Services.
The
campus features 16 independent living
condominium-style Ridge Homes with one or
two-bedroom floor plans, fully equipped
kitchens, living and dining areas, ample storage
space, attached garages and individual patio or
optional Florida rooms.
Parkside independent living apartments opened in
2006. This six-story building features 89 one
and two-bedroom spacious apartments overlooking
the Blacklick Woods Metro Park and Golf Course.
Parkside, for active and independent seniors,
boasts a formal and private dining room, fitness
center, Columbus Room lounge, outdoor terrace,
Bistro where Starbucks coffee is served, bank,
postal center, library, activity rooms and more.
The
Bishop Place building houses Independent Living
Plus apartments for active seniors who may need
some minor assistance. Residents can also
receive 4-levels of Assisted Living care which
offers help with the activities of daily living,
such as bathing, dressing or taking medication.
The
Special Care program helps those with
Alzheimer’s Disease and other similar dementias
retain as much independence and cognitive
ability as possible. Care is provided in a
specially designed building with the utmost
attention to safety and medical needs, as well
as emotional, social and psychological needs.
Finally, Life Center provides Adult Day Services
where seniors and adults with disabilities
receive an individualized plan of daytime care
with therapeutic activities and socialization.
